M113a1 FSV (Australia)
Lee Rothgeb | AFV Club #35023
The Australian M113 FSV (Fire Support Vehicle) was a fire-support variant of the M113A1 developed for the Australian Army. It mounted the turret from the Alvis Saladin armored car, armed with a 76 mm L5 gun and coaxial machine gun. Introduced to increase the firepower of Australian armored units, the FSV combined the M113’s tracked mobility with a powerful direct-fire weapon. Its distinctive rounded turret earned it the nickname “Beast.” It was later supplemented and replaced by the improved M113 Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle (MRV).
